New Haven has often been known by its businesses, from the historic Langenberg Hat Factory, founded in the 1880s, to Hawthorn and later American Recreation Products, a major tent manufacturer. Today, New Haven is home to one of the area's largest employers, GDX Automotive, as well as several other manufacturers.

New Haven has two industrial parks, both with easy access to Highway 100. Manufacturers include GDX Automotive, Metalcraft Enterprises, MarChem Coated Fabrics, Bennett Packaging, Turning Point Machine Tool, C&S Tool and Die, and New Haven Filter Co.

The Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of New Haven is one of New Haven's signature businesses. The company traces its roots to the early 1900s and now services a wide part of east-central Missouri. Citizens Bank of New Haven has grown from its original downtown location to four different locations in Franklin County.
